Turkey Behavior

This page is  a work in progress where I hope to chronicle some of the fascinating turkey behavior seen and sounds heard on this free range farm.

Grazing and Yummy Sounds

Turkeys love to graze on grass - here is a video on how they do it and the contented sounds they make.

Turkeys take advantage of their freedom and travel all over the ranch.

Raising Poults in the House

Okay...turkeys normally don't work with computers but Solo does!

One of These Things is Not Like the Other...

Sometimes turkeys make strange friends.

Turkey Curiosity

Turkeys are quick to investigate anything strange.  They are typically the first ones to find the victims of a raccoon attack or rattlesnakes as they try to enter the yard.

In this case the object of their investigation was a stuffed toy the dogs left out.

Raising Poults

Turkey hens are excellent Mothers and will vigorously defend their young.

Nothing in the world seems as content as a turkey poult under it's Mother!

Turkey poults act like big turkeys strutting and flirting.

Cuddles, my favorite hen, loves getting hugs from visitors.

Turkey Poults calling for Mom or their buddies - the poult equivalent of "Where are you?"

Check out these turkey sounds!
